| Ohio State Adds Another by Chas Wolfe 6/06 Evan Turner from Chicago (IL) St. Joseph's has just committed to The Ohio State University. Turner who is a Top 25 combo/slashing guard might have just made Thad Matta and Staffs’ ‘07 Class almost out of reach! I saw Evan go from Top 100 to Top 25 overnight at the King James Shooting Stars Classic back in April 2006. Evan was breaking the defense down with his low dribble and long stature along with getting to the bucket in a hurry. With his bounce, sound fundamentals and soft jumper Ohio State fans are going to love this kid in the near future. Turner is soft of a long/wiry kid that has a great frame and sort of reminds me of a Penny Hardaway type game. Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, all had offers on the table before Matta and Staff sealed the deal quicker than Chinese Delivery. Sources close to the Ohio State Basketball Family also have mentioned that Alex Tyus 6'8 PF from Cincinnati Harmony Prep will also be on campus this weekend with his family for the possibility to wear the scarlet and grey! If OSU lands this kid...They might change the name in Columbus to the Coliseum because Matta is building an Empire with this type of colossal talent! Verbal 2007 Commitments: 1) Kosta Koufos (Canton Glen Oak, Ohio) 7’ 1 Top 15 Overall 2) Evan Turner (Chicago, Illinois) 6’6 Top 25 Overall 3) Jon Diebler (Upper Sandusky, Ohio) 6’6 Top 75 Overall 4) Dallas Lauderdale (Solon, Ohio) 6’8 Top 100 Overall Also on the Table: 5) Alex Tyus (Cincinnati Harmony Prep, Ohio) 6’8 Top 15 Overall 6) Solomon Alibi (Montverde, Florida) Top 5 Center Overall |
| Ohio’s Top players in the Class of 2008 by Ranking by Chas Wolfe 7/9/06 1. William Buford: 6’5 SG, Toledo Libbey (D-1 Greyhounds) 2. Yancey Gates: 6’9 PF, Cincinnati Hughes (CBC) 3. Delvon Roe: 6’8 SF, Lakewood St. Edward (King James Shooting Stars) 4. B.J. Mullens: 7’1 C, Canal Winchester (CBC) 5. Devon Moore: 6’2 SG, Columbus Northland (CBC) 6. Logan Aronhalt: 6’3 SG, Zanesville (Team CBIZ) 20. Kyle Caiola: 5’10 PG, Parma Normandy Three to think on…. 1) Buford has taken his game from mid- major lock to a sure lock at the high-major level with looks from Ohio State, Michigan, Xavier, Cincinnati and Michigan State just to mention a few. Look for Buford to be a Top 25 Player overall by his Senior Year with the addition of Physical Strength and his flawless scoring. 2) Gates is capable of scoring at will, but it just depends on his mentality during that game. At 6’9 245 pounds he has great body control and runs the floor well, he just needs to work on his inside presence and use that ability to control the game. Ohio State, Michigan, Cincinnati are some that have already offered. 3) Roe first came on the recruiting map two years ago at Five-Star’s Pitt 3 Invite Session where he was named MVP of the Development league, two years later he is still at the top of his game with top five performances at the NBA Players camp and Nike All-American Camp. His ability to post up smaller defenders and knock down the 17 footer makes him a high major prospect. Ohio State, Michigan, Illinois, Virginia Tech, Florida and Michigan State have all offered, many feel Roe is still waiting on North Carolina, they did contact him after the NBA camp, so only time will tell if he follows in Jawad Williams (St. Ed/UNC Alumnus) footsteps. |
