Horford Will Wait

Detroit, MI.- The NCAA's signing day is less than a week away and seniors around the country are making commitments and putting on hats that send fans into hysteria.  Grand Ledge's 6'10 2010 center/power forward Jon Horford could easily be on that list but he'll more than likely wait until the April signing period nears before he makes a decision.  Inside Prep Sports caught up with Horford Wednesday night and talked recruiting.

The mobile post player has gained offers and the interest of many programs East of the Mississippi but is partial to his high major offers.  Horford mentioned offers from, "Providence, Michigan, Alabama, and Kentucky."

"I'm looking to go high major."

On Michigan he said, "They're looking for a big guy who can shoot.  Get the ball up the floor. And they're close to home."

"Providence shows the most interest.  They're (coaches) great guys! I talk to them (coaches) often.  They're dedicated in recruiting me.  A top school based off of their interest in me."

When asked when he wants to make a decision, "I'm waiting it out.  I know it's risky but I'm probably going to wait until the late signing period.  I'm not dying to sign with anybody right now."

One thing about post players that wait until the late signing period is they're commodities early or late and high major offers will still be there.

While he's waiting to decide on a school, he's in the gym.

"I'm working on everything. My jumper, getting stronger, becoming more of an outside shooting threat."

"I've never been an outside shooting threat.  I'm trying to bring that into the (high school) season."

"They're (college coaches) looking for me to play the four (power forward).  I want to fit in what's best for their program."

Inside Prep Sports was in Columbus with his AAU team, Michigan Mustangs, two summers ago when Horford fell to the ground in agony.  It was a freak injury and diagnosed as a dislocated patella.

How's the knee?

"The knee is good."

His older brother is Atlanta Hawks forward Al Horford and he's worked out with him a half a doze times during the summer as they both have busy schedules.  Jon says Al gives him inspiring words, "He tells me 'Keep working hard and keep it together.'"

Jon Horford will more than likely have a high major school to choose from but he says, "I don't want to rush and want to take some time to evaluate."

In closing he isn't looking for one certain school to offer him and will focus on the season and improving.

Expect a few college coaches to be in the stands at Lansing Eastern's Don Johnson Fieldhouse January 16 when Grand Ledge takes on Lansing Eastern.  More on that showcase soon…
