Inside Prep Sports
Lansing, MI.- Another review
from Inside Prep Sports’ looks at the play of the standout Super 80’s guards
from Michigan’s 2011 class.
5’112011 point guard Ed Brown (Detroit Southeastern)
plays with confidence on either end of the court but his defense stands out
despite his ability to knock down three-pointers. He plays defense with his feet and showed a solid understanding
of working angles.
5’10 2011 guard Cody
Chandler (Schoolcraft) was one of the top shooters in the Super 80 camp. His shooting form is sound and consistent
which college coaches in attendance took note.
While he’s a sound ball-handler, working on getting to the rack either
off pump-fakes or changing gears will determine what level he plays in college.
5’9 2011 point guard Demarco
Davis (Dearborn Heights Robichaud) used his quickness to get to the basket time
and time again. He has decent size,
which he was able to use to fend off defenders when he got by them. Davis also shot the ball a bit better from
the perimeter than what I was used to seeing from him.
5’8 2011 point guard Marcus
Hood II (St. Claire Shores S. Lake) has grown almost a half-foot since last
year’s Super 80 at the University of Detroit.
He can now make the passes he couldn’t make a year ago and doesn’t get
muscled around as easy, even though he does need to hit the weight room. Improving hitches and becoming more fluid
when shooting the ball will help his recruitment.
5’9 2011 point guard
Dietrich Lever II (Canton) has looks from Division II programs and there a are
some Division I programs that are keeping tabs on his improvement. He has a solid understanding of the game and
becoming more of a vocal leader on the court would help his teammates, especially
those that didn’t understand that he’s a solid floor general. He’s working with a trainer so except him to
be a stronger player when the high school season rolls around.
6’3 2011 guard AJ Mathew
(Ann Arbor Huron) was one of the camps top performers as he mixed up his
scoring as well as anyone in attendance.
He gets to the basket efficiently and the results are positive more
often than not. He will have more than
mid-major programs ready to pull the trigger when he consistently knocks down
his perimeter shot.
5’11 2011 point guard CJ
Mwilla (Livonia Stevenson) is a solid point guard whose play often doesn’t get
the looks because of his low-key demeanor.
Improving his left hand and working on his first step will gain him more
notoriety with college coaches. He’s a
pass first guard who showed a solid mid-range jumper.
5’11 2011 point guard Brandon Padgett (Anchor Bay) was a pleasant surprise to the I.P.S. Super 80 as he has talent and adds more depth to the state’s 2011 class. He handles the ball well and was able to produce although he seemed more comfortable with the ball in his right hand. Padgett is one to see in high school as he and 6’4 wing Taiwan Jones should provide a solid one-two punch in high school.
