Detroit, MI.- Tuesday, November 3rd, Decision day and election
day for many of the
United States' citizens. On the basketball front, it was
announcement day for Detroit
Southeastern's 2011 6'6 wing Brandan Kearney and his decision
was what many
suspected and the Michigan State Spartans landed their first
recruit from the 2011 class.
Regarded as one of the best in
Michigan's super deep 2011 class, Kearney gathered early looks from big time
programs that turned into offers after a solid summer individually and on a
team level. He played an age group up
on Team Detroit's 17u club team and both team and the Detroiter had impressive
tournaments in July's certified events.
Team Detroit won NY2LA's Summer Jam in Milwaukee and followed that
tournament victory up by winning Reebok's Summer Championship in Las
Vegas. Both tournament victories were
played in front of the NCAA's premier coaches and programs among them Michigan
State, Michigan, Kentucky and Ohio State.
Coaches from those schools recruited Kearney hard and were on his final
list.
The 6'6 wing also had success
on the international level with the USA's junior team as they won a gold medal
a month later in Argentina. He has
established himself as a team player over the last two years and after watching
him in an open gym last week he seems ripened for a breakout junior year on the
individual scale. He's more vocal and
playing with a controlled urgency.
Kearney's starting to gain weight and could be close to 200 pounds by
the time he steps on to the Spartans campus as a freshman. Also, expect him to have the size, skill
set, athleticism, and court vision to play the point, shooting guard, and the
wing in two years.
