Inside Prep Sports

Detroit, MI.- NCAA’s division one players laced up their shoes and tightened their ankle braces on Friday and afterward the programs opened their doors to fans and recruits across the country.  Here’s a look at who went where on Friday:

Michigan Players:

The University of Detroit is a program well on the way of rebuilding their program and a couple of cornerstones from Indianapolis’ Howe Academy made the trip.  6’8 forward Jordan Mauel ’10 and 5’10 point guard Alvin “PJ” Boutee made an appearance at Calihan Hall.  Also attending were Detroit Country Day’s 6’2 point guard Ray McCallum, jr. ’10 and Livonia Clarenceville’s 6’8 power forward Jalen Reynolds ’11.

Florida International has an icon in the Detroit area; assistant coach William Eddie…yea and head coach Isaiah Thomas.  Birmingham’s Seaholm’s 6’3 shooting guard Richaud Pack ’10 has committed to the Florida school and he is taking advantage of the warm weather this weekend.

Miami (FL.) is no stranger to Michigan or Detroit Country Day, so it shouldn’t be a shock that Birmingham Detroit Country Day’s 6’11 center Amir Williams ’11 took a trip to Dan Marino land.

Michigan had a group of the student body that served hamburgers and hot dogs for those waiting in line.  6’2 combo guard Carlton Brundidge ’11 is the newest Wolverine commit and he rose to his feet a handful of times during the festivities, Detroit Denby’s 6’5 wing Isaiah Sykes ‘10 has interest from high-major programs and 6’6 forward Brandon Williams ‘10, Battle Creek Central’s 6’8 power forward Trey McDonald ’11 has Big Ten schools swarming, 6’2 combo guard Ray Lee ’12 attended with his Detroit Cass Tech teammates, and one of the state’s best freshmen, Detroit Pershing’s 5’8 point guard Khalil Felder also attended.

Michigan State had a packed house and a few recruits were spotted in the audience.  Keith Appling and Alex Gauna are already headed to Michigan State next year, Grand Ledge’s (MI.) 6’9 power forward Jon Horford ’10 has an offer from the Spartans, and Cleveland Central Catholic’s 6’8 wing Anton ‘Silk’ Grady ’11 reportedly has an offer and word from his camp is he’s content with staying in the Great Lakes’ Region, Detroit Southeastern attended and most notably brought two with Spartan offers, 6’6 wing/guard Brandan Kearney ’11 and 6’8 power forward Percy Gibson ’11.

Western Michigan had Detroit Consortium’s 6’3 wing Brendale Smith ’11 on campus and I’m sure he also gained the attention of any Bronco coaches he passed by.

Ohio Players (no relation to the dynamo crew with the groovy album covers):

West Virginia got there foot, knee, and hip into Ohio as Dayton Jefferson’s 6’11 power forward Adreian Payne ’10 is one of the country’s most sought after players was spotted in the attendance.  Columbus Northland had a trio of players in the crowd as well: 5’11 point guard Trey Burke ’11, 6’6 forward Jalen Robinson ’12, and 5’10 point guard Jordan Potts ’12.
