Detroit,
MI.- Autumn is here and Michigan players are falling off the board at an
increasing rate. Monday afternoon,
Melvindale Academy of Business & Technology's 5'10 senior combo guard Michael
'Trey' Talley III announced his decision to join an Atlantic 10 program that is
very familiar with Detroit and it's surrounding areas.
Talley is one of the state's most dynamic
scorers and he has proven so with multiple 40-point games and a 50-point game
as a sophomore in the annual Motor City Roundball Classic. When Inside Prep Sports caught up with
Talley and his dad/high school coach, Michael Talley II, they both mentioned
that the decision to attend Duquesne was the "best fit." The younger Talley likes the Duke's up-tempo
style and his dad likes that head coach Rod Everhart goes deep into his
bench. Dad also likes how competitive
the league is with Temple, Xavier, St. Bonaventure, and Dayton to mention a few
plus one.
The Detroit aspect of things comes with
assistant coach Steve Hall and Duquesne's sophomore point guard Eric Evans, who
like 'Trey' floats around the 5'9"-5'10" mark on the height chart and
put up big numbers in high school. Talley
III also grew up playing with Evans and both played for Detroit's notable AAU
program, The Family.
Talley also told I.P.S. he had offers from
St. Bonaventure, Providence, and MAC schools but Duquesne showed him the most
love. He visited Duquesne in late
August on an unofficial visit and is planning an official visit to the
Pittsburgh based school in mid-October.
Basketball isn't the only sport that young Talley likes as he mentioned
the Stanley Cup Champions, Penguins, and Super Bowl Champs, Steelers, as well
as the Pirates. Perhaps the Dukes could
be listed amongst the other champions in the Steel City if things go the
Talley's way.
Melvindale A, B, & T has an early test on
December 12 at the Kurt Keener Classic as they battle Detroit Country Day.
