Akron, OH.-When you look up the work dynamite in the dictionary you will see
a picture of Carl Jones holding a basketball. Carl "Tay-Tay" Jones might be
only 5’10ish with a pair of kicks on and throw in the cushioned NBA socks,
but he plays like he’s 6’10.

E.Lansing, MI.- A lot of talented teams and players descended upon the
Michigan State campus this past weekend. There were 56 teams overall that
carried incoming freshman, transfers, and improved players. Also, the
opportunity for those on jv last year were able to find where they fit in the
varsity environment provided by the Tom Izzo Spartan Showcase. The event
was efficiently ran, the 12 courts were only a few minutes apart, the
competition was good, and the two-day event ended with a solid tournament
that left Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard as champions.

Sonny Johnson’s Top 100 Showcase Report

By Rodger Bohn (special to InsidePrepSportsnet)

Top 25 Performers (in no particular order)
Jared Sullinger, 6’7, PF, Columbus Northland, 2010- The Ohio State commit
and consensus #3 player in the nation (according to Rivals and Scout) lived
up to his reputation today, dominating the competition and showing off an
improved perimeter game. Sullinger effortlessly shot deep three pointers
with nice results and scored at will inside via a series of power moves.
Conditioning is an area the big guy is certainly going to have to continue to
work on, but that takes nothing away from the consistent productivity he
exerts.

Sullinger was Ohio State's first verbal commit from the 2010 class. He is a top five player in the country and his A.A.U. team, All-Ohio Red 16u, have lost less than a handful of games over the last two years. They'll defend their national championship in Orlando, FL. the last week of July.

Talley is one of the best guards in Michigan's '10 class and has faired very well against much of the nation's top competition. He's a skilled ball handler and scorer who has received an offer from the University of Detroit.
Harris long, athletic, and a skilled combo forward who gave a verbal commitment to Eastern MI. University in the late spring. He could be the sleeper the Eagles need to get back to the NCAA Tournament.

Two Dynamic Point Guards Pick up First Offers

Orlando, FL.- The Wide World Sports Complex offers two large basketball
facilities with twelve courts that are well within walking distance.  The
competition qualified to get to this stage of the 16u National Championship
so there were talented teams on every court.  There are three teams in the
event from Michigan and they are amongst the best the Great Lake State has
to offer.

First a look at The Family’s 16u squad in their game versus the Georgia
Stars Black 16u: as the guard play on this team based out of Detroit goes so
does the team.  They almost went to victory after a hard fought third quarter
where they claimed a six-point lead headed into the fourth quarter after
trailing for much of the game.  Although they played hard it was free throws at
the end that could have helped their cause as they fell to a very talented
team, 63-59.

In Orlando, Brown showed offensive skills that not a lot of coaches knew about. He has nice bounce and the length that coaches crave. he's getting looks from Central Michigan, Dayton, Cleveand St., and Detroit.
Craft is a tenacious defender and provides a lot of consistency for the nation's top 16u team. He's an excellent student and on the verge of making a decision on where he will go to school. Who's that in the background? None other the A.A.U. teammate Jared Sullinger.

Down to business:

Carl Jones, 5’10, Point Guard, Garfield Heights-  “Tay” was the best
performer of the showcase, playing on a loaded white squad that included
Andre Paulk and Mario Hines.  The St. Joe’s commit did the bulk of his
scoring through a variety of mid-range jumpers off of the dribble, but also
showed his usual deep range.  The open gym type setting of this event was
beneficial to Jones, who thrives in the up and down style of play.
